Youth Accommodation Worker

We now have an exciting opportunity for a Youth Accommodation Worker to join our Youth Development team on a temporary, part time basis (48 hours per fortnight), on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.

The City of Canning's Supported Youth Accommodation Program provides up to 10 young people aged 16 - 21 years old, supported medium to long term accommodation at various residences within the City. This role reports to the Leader of Youth Development and Programming and works closely with another Youth Accommodation Worker to deliver the Youth Accommodation Service; supporting at-risk young people to prepare for and transition into independent living. The role involves high level case management, liaising with external relevant referral and support agencies, carrying out inspections and property assessments, efficient and high standard of reporting requirements and more. The successful applicant will provide direct and high level support, in addition to capacity building, of young residents in their development of important independent living skills and personal goals.

Applicants will have a qualification in Youth Work or relative Human Services and experience with working with ‘at risk' young people in supported accommodation settings or similar environments. They will also have a current ‘C' class driver's licence and a reliable vehicle, a current Working the Children Check, and a current satisfactory Police Clearance. The right applicant will have sound knowledge on the key issues surrounding young people, and be able to relate well with young people using strong interpersonal skills. The successful applicant will have high level administration and report writing skills, strong advocacy skills, and knowledge of relevant community and youth agencies.
